Walmart USA’s new bonus plan

Walmart is shaking things up for its U.S. hourly store workers with a fresh annual bonus program, sparked by direct feedback from its team. Starting at a cool $1,000 annually, these bonuses grow alongside tenure and store achievements, requiring just one year on the job to qualify. This follows Walmart’s recent bump in minimum hourly wages to $14, with an average hourly pay near $18, showcasing their commitment to fair compensation.

Not stopping there, Walmart has also reimagined rewards for store managers, promising salary bumps and revamped bonus structures aimed at keeping top talent motivated. It’s all part of Walmart’s mission to not only be the best place to shop but also the best place to work, as emphasized by CEO John Furner and Walmart’s talent officer, Lo Stomski.

And they’re not alone in this race for happier employees: Target, their rival, has upped the ante by doubling bonuses for salaried staff. This shift in incentive strategies underscores a broader trend across the retail landscape.
